Rich in history and country charm, the Cuballing Tavern is a landmark that has welcomed locals and travellers for well over a century. First built in 1891, the Tavern has been known by several names over the years, including the Cuballing Pool Hotel, Bullara Hotel, and the Cuballing Hotel, each reflecting a chapter of the town’s evolving story.
The original tavern was a galvanised iron building with seven rooms, a brick kitchen and wash house at the rear. After the structure was destroyed in 1905 to 1906, a new single storey brick hotel was constructed, incorporating the original kitchen, laundry, and three cellars into the foundation. In 1912, a second storey was added, providing 11 upstairs bedrooms and giving the building much of the character it has today.
The exterior showcases beautifully crafted brickwork, highlighted by two detailed pediments displaying the name of the hotel and the construction date of the upper level. These architectural features make the Cuballing Tavern one of the most distinctive historic buildings in the area.
In 1989, extensive renovations were undertaken by then owners Fran Craig and Peter Patterson, introducing a welcoming barbecue area and a relaxed beer garden that remain popular gathering spaces today. The historic brick kitchen and laundry continue to be used, preserving a tangible link to the Tavern’s early days.
